Washing Your Face Correctly
How
To Touch Your Face Skin
A LESSON IN WASHING YOUR FACE CORRECTLY:
You will not find instruction here concerning face cleansing products and the order or regimen you develop for daily skin care, but rather how to treat your face skin during your cleansing routine and how you should touch your face in general.
It's important that we regard our skin as always aging and sensitive, not so much in a negative way, but in a positive pro-active means that will keep our skin in the best condition and looking younger for years.
There is little to say, so that means there is little for you to think about. So you see, this is not a complicated endeavor. Just keep your facials simple so as not to irritate your skin with products that will cause you to wash your face more than is necessary and that will cause you to touch your face in a way that will cause it to stretch and sag.
Reminder About Skin Anatomy (from
my Skin
Layers Article):
3.
SUBCUTANEOUS
TISSUE
The subcutaneous tissue is a layer of fat and connective tissue that
houses larger blood vessels and nerves. It is an important
layer that helps with the regulation of the skin and body temperature.
The size of this layer varies throughout the body and is unique for
each person.
The subcutaneous layer, also known as the hypodermis, is not actually skin, but it attaches the skin to everything beneath. It also contains a layer of fat. Some of us have more fat than others, but this layer is always present in some form.
The blood vessels in the subcutaneous layer feed and drain the capillaries of the dermis. And it is the loss of the subcutaneous tissue, most often occurring with age, that leads to facial sagging and wrinkling.
Washing Your Face Correctly Tips:
- Keeping the above facts in mind, it's important that we respect our skin from as early an age as possible. So heed the following steps to help keep your face skin looking younger longer:
- Don't over wash your face. Keep it down to once in the morning and once at night. Washing your face only once, in the evening is adequate unless you've been given other instructions from your dermatologist.
- Use a scarf, headband or ponytail to keep your face free of hair during the washing process. It will limit the amount of times you must touch your face and help you to wash your face quickly without worrying about getting your hair wet.
- Use only lukewarm water to wash your face. Never use hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries).
- All you need in the morning is
to splash a little lukewarm water on your face. Make
sure to lightly touch your face with your fingertips only.
When you dry use a clean towel or wash cloth and tap your
face dry with it, don't rub.
- When you cleanse your face, never apply your cleanser roughly. Be gentle with your skin, especially around the eyes.
- When rinsing your face, never push your skin downward. Gently splash water over your face with gentle pats in an upward movement.
- If using a cleanser such as "Ponds" where you don't use water, but you must wipe your face, be sure to gently wipe upwards.
Touching Your Face Correctly Tips:
- Never touch your face with dirty hands. Keep hand wipes or a bottle of hand Sanitizer with you and clean your hands before touching your skin.
- Don't touch your skin out of anxiety or nervousness. It's not a tool to pull, push or rub to help you fee better emotionally.
- Stop any habits of playing with your face skin when writing, taking tests, reading, watching TV, etc. It will cause you to harm your skin and perhaps allow bacteria to cause skin problems.
- If you get a breakout, acne, chicken pox or any type of condition that will tempt you to scratch your face and scabs, go to your dermatologist or doctor for relieve. Also, there are inexpensive solutions you can get at your local drug store, such as calamine lotion. You can get it for $3.99 at Walgreens.
Washing Your Face Correctly Video
The following video is a lesson in applying skin care products, but for the information given here, view it for it's face skin handling value. Watch how the girl in the video is careful about how she touches her face.
It may be difficult at first, but if you make it a habit, you can prevent or reduce facial skin sagging by washing your face correctly. Begin as soon as you can. However, if you're already older, use face exercises to strengthen your face muscles mixed with a new approach in the way that you touch your skin. You'll see an improvement in your face for looking younger in a few weeks or sooner.
