Hemp Butter Natural Skin Care

By Laura Thomas

Hemp butter is used in natural skin care products, not just because it is a safe and natural substance to use on your skin, but also for its good ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acid content that protects your skin from the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Most people will be surprised to learn that hemp can be used to care for their skin since the substance brings fibers to kind, and good, strong ropes. However, it can also be used as a skin-care product with one major advantage over many others in that it is 100% natural. On the topic of hempen ropes, one reason why they are so strong is that they are not degraded by the elements.

The very substances that hemp contains to offer this degree of protection, can also protect your skin from these same elements: sun, wind and rain, specifically the ultra-violet component of sunlight that can do so much damage to skin through the generation of free radicals, small molecules that rupture and destroy the membranes of your skin cells.

Hemp is also generally grown without the use of pesticides due to its natural resistance to insect attack. Its cultivation is therefore normally completely natural, or as natural as modern agricultural methods will allow. When you use hemp butter you are using a natural skin care product, grown naturally and hence helping to protect the environment. It leaves good green footprint.

Have you ever considered what you are actually rubbing into your skin when you purchase these commercial preparations that are advertised so vigorously? Have you read the ingredients and actually considered what they are? How about these:

Petrolatum: this is a mineral oil that can clog your pores and skin surface with an oily film. This prevents your skin from breathing, and stops moisture from evaporating.

Sodium Lauryl (or Laureth) Sulfate: used in degreasers, floor cleaners and detergents. This substance can react with other ingredients in some skin care products to form dangerous dioxins and nitrates.

Elastin and Collagen: Many of these additives are obtained from ground-up chicken feet and also from animal skins.  Apart from being anathema to vegetarians and vegans, these substances are of too high a molecular weight to be able to penetrate into your skin, and hence of little or no value.

Natural products such as hemp butter are significantly safer and of 100% vegetable origin. They are far better for you and your skin than normal synthetic cosmetic products, even some of the more famous brands.

It is enough to know that hemp butter is a natural skin care product; it helps to keep your skin moisturized without totally sealing it off from the outside world and hence adding to the damage, and also protecting it from the damaging effect of antioxidants generated by sunlight. All in all a perfectly satisfactory solution for a skin care problem.
